Operating Balance

The companies required to carry out an Operating Balance are those governed by the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive (IPPC). More precisely, it concerns any site which operates at least one Classified Installation for Environmental Protection (ICPE) subject to authorisation on the list specified in the Decree dated 29 June 2004.

NB: not all ICPEs subject to Authorisation have to carry out an Operating Balance.

Operating Balances are to be filed with the Prefecture every 10 years.

The purpose of the Operating Balance

The purpose of an Operating Balance is to describe the impact created by the site on its environment during the 10 previous years and to analyse the changes in that impact.

BREF

The Operating Balance also proposes an analysis of the Best available technical REFerence documents (BREF) for the branch of industry in question in order to study possible areas for improvement of the site in terms of environmental performance.
