Pyrotechnic Safety Study

Pyrotechnic Work Safety Studies (EST) form part of the items to be provided by any operator of a fixed or mobile explosive products plant when filing its technical approval application form with the Prefecture.

The safety study covers the protection of workers against the risks to which they are subjected in plants that manufacture, load, cartridge, store, condition, work, study, test or destroy explosive materials or objects intended to be used for the effects of their explosion or for pyrotechnic purposes.

For the operator, the objectives of this study are to :

  • detect all the possibilities of pyrotechnic accidents
  • establish, for each of them, the nature and the severity of the risks incurred by the employees of the plant
  • and determine the measures to be taken to avoid accidents and to limit their consequences (prevention and protection)

The regulatory framework :

  • Decree no. 90-153 dated 16 February 1990 containing various provisions relating to the regulations governing explosive products
  • Decree no. 79-846 dated 28 September 1979 containing the public administration regulations applicable to the protection of workers against the specific risks to which they are subjected in pyrotechnic plants
  • French Environmental Code (hazard studies)

CNPP services

The CNPP carries out Pyrotechnic Work Safety Studies (EST). These studies, depending on the context, can supplement the safety studies and other files in the technical approval application.
