French Accreditation Committee (COFRAC)

A French association (loi 1901) created in 1994, recognized as the sole national accreditation body by the decree of December 19, 2008, published in the Official Journal on December 26, 2008. The structure responsible for the official recognition of the competence of conformity assessment bodies, such as testing laboratories, certification bodies (for products, services, management systems), and inspection bodies. 

Our testing laboratories have obtained COFRAC accreditation for some of their activities of testings: accreditation no. 1-0064 (scope available on www.cofrac.fr). CNPP Cert. is accredited by COFRAC for its product and service certification activities: accreditations no. ,5-0547 (scopes available on www.cofrac.fr). 

COFRAC accreditation is an official recognition issued by the French Accreditation Committee, guaranteeing that an organization complies with strict standards of quality and competence. It is essential to ensure the reliability of results from tests, inspections, or certifications carried out by laboratories, companies, or institutions. This accreditation, based on international criteria, strengthens the credibility of accredited organizations and enables them to stand out in the market. By obtaining COFRAC accreditation, an organization demonstrates its commitment to excellence and conformity with the highest standards. 

To obtain COFRAC accreditation, it is necessary to follow a rigorous process that begins with a formal application to the French Accreditation Committee. The candidate organization must demonstrate its conformity with international requirements for quality and competence, notably by adopting procedures compliant with ISO standards. A thorough audit is then conducted by COFRAC to assess the organization's practices and documentation. Once the criteria are validated, accreditation is granted, confirming the reliability and quality of the services offered. This accreditation process enhances the organization's credibility in the market.

A COFRAC audit follows a structured process aimed at evaluating an organization's conformity to established standards. First, the interested organization must submit an official application to the French Accreditation Committee, accompanied by the necessary documentation demonstrating its practices and procedures. Once the application is accepted, an initial audit is planned, including an opening meeting where the audit objectives and schedule are clearly defined.  

COFRAC auditors then conduct a thorough on-site inspection, verifying processes, interviewing key personnel, and examining relevant records to ensure compliance with the required standards. After this verification phase, a detailed report is drafted, identifying any non-conformities and recommending corrective actions if necessary. Finally, a decision is made regarding the granting of COFRAC accreditation, thereby validating the competence and reliability of the audited organization.
