CE Marking: Ensuring European Market Compliance
The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) (EU) is a European regulation aimed at ensuring the free movement of construction products within the European Union member states.
The CPR text version 305/2011 underwent a revision in December 2024, resulting in the publication of CPR Regulation 2024/3110. These two texts will coexist until 2040 to facilitate a gradual transition.
What is CE marking?
CE marking certifies that these products are fit for their intended use and meet the essential requirements (performance, protection of human health and safety, environmental protection, etc.).
CNPP Cert. is a Notified Body (N°1116) appointed by the French authorities to carry out the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (System 1) required under the "CPR" regulation. (Accreditation n° 5-0547 - Scope available on www.cofrac.fr).
Is CE marking mandatory?
CE marking is a guarantee of conformity with European standards, ensuring that products comply with safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.
It is mandatory for construction products intended for sale on the European internal market.
Which products are concerned by CE marking?
CE marking is mandatory for manufacturers wishing to market their construction products in European Union member states.
It covers a wide range of products, including components for:
- Gas extinguishing systems (EN 12094 series standards)
- Fire detection and fire alarm systems (EN 54 series standards)
Fire fighting systems (smoke control dampers EN 12101-8, fire dampers EN 15650, and power supplies EN 12101-10).

CE Marking: What is the assessment process?
To obtain CE marking, the following must be carried out:
- Initial type testing according to the applicable harmonised standard(s);
- An FPC (Factory Production Control) audit with the objectives of:
- Ensuring that the manufacturer's resources correspond to those declared in the application file;
- Examining the organisation of production controls implemented by the manufacturer.
Upon completion of these assessments, a certificate of constancy of performance is issued to the manufacturer.

What is the validity period of CE marking?
CE marking remains valid as long as the product continues to be placed on the market and complies with the applicable requirements.
It is therefore essential for manufacturers to maintain up-to-date technical documentation and monitor regulatory developments to ensure their products remain compliant with current standards.
