Are you a manufacturer of smoke and/or flame detection systems based on image analysis?

Objectives and definitions of an image-based smoke and/or flame detection system

The purpose of an image-based smoke and/or flame detection system is to generate an alarm condition.

This fire alarm condition must be exclusively managed either autonomously or by a fire system to which it is connected.

An image-based smoke and/or flame detection system consists of:

  • An image sensor (e.g., camera),
  • An image analysis function,
  • The connectivity (interfaces, cables, etc.) necessary for system operation (power supply, generation and transmission of alarm conditions).

This system is associated with:

  • A software interface enabling configuration of the function and images display,
  • A device ensuring the autonomy of the system.

Do you want to demonstrate the quality of your products?

Our expert engineers have drafted a technical specification defining the requirements, performance criteria, and test methods related to smoke and/or flame detection systems based on image analysis.

The independent CNPP’s laboratory can conduct your tests and transparently demonstrate the quality of your products. These tests are continuously adapted to new technologies.

Requirements for Conformity of a Smoke and/or Flame Detection System Based on Image Analysis

Détection de fumées par analyse d'images

To be compliant with this technical specification, a smoke and/or flame detection system based on image analysis must satisfy all of the following requirements:

  • Performance requirements for smoke and/or flame detection,
  • Design requirements for system reliability,
  • Requirements for resistance to environmental conditions,
  • Requirements for protection of the image sensor enclosures,
  • Marking and documentation requirements,
  • Robustness requirements against digital attacks (optional).

To define the performance of a smoke and/or flame detection system based on image analysis, it is first necessary to establish the capability of the image sensor used by the system to produce a quality image (contrast and color reproduction) despite variations in lighting conditions.

Satisfaction of the imaging requirement is a sine qua non condition for conformity.

Detection performance will then be established by the system’s ability to detect representative target sources within defined timeframes, under controlled lighting and colorimetric conditions.
