Interview with Guillaume Savornin, Chairman of the EFSG since 2020

Guillaume Savornin, Directeur Général CNPP

1) Why an EFSG approach, and which stakeholders and sectors are involved?

The EFSG initiative consists of developing and maintaining mutual recognition agreements for testing between the leading laboratories and certification bodies specialized in fire safety and security products. The goal is to reduce costs and facilitate the movement of products for manufacturers, while maintaining a constant focus on technical requirements and a high level of trust between stakeholders.

2) What are the benefits for certified manufacturers, and for specifiers and users of certified products?

The EFSG approach is based on a high level of trust between the testing laboratories and certification bodies within the network, all of which are accredited according to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. This trust is built over time through working groups and the implementation of inter-laboratory comparison tests and witness testing.

A manufacturer benefiting from recognition agreements can more easily distribute products in several EU countries, as they gain easier access to national voluntary marks that are recognized and prescribed by both public and private decision-makers. Furthermore, technical exchanges within the EFSG allow us to anticipate and respond to future technological shifts and emerging risks, such as cybersecurity.

3) Could you tell us more about the EFSG recognition process?

A manufacturer wishing to engage in the EFSG process must complete an "application form" for their products and specify which recognition marks they require at the start of the process. A lead certification body is then appointed from among the EFSG members to oversee the entire process.

Currently, over 300 products in fire safety, electronic security, and mechanical security have benefited from the EFSG recognition process.

You recently updated the EFSG's visual identity and launched a new website. Could you explain the site's content and the purpose of this initiative?

nouveau logo EFSG

The logo needed a makeover. This new visual identity aims to significantly modernize the EFSG’s image and uphold the group's three core values: Safe, Trusted, and Reliable.

The circles in the logo represent the international recognition of certifications issued by EFSG members, as well as the importance of collaboration between us. The website has been completely redesigned to reflect the EFSG's dynamism and new visual identity. It also highlights the benefits for our customers at a European level.

The ultimate goal is to provide better visibility and proximity for the EFSG among manufacturers, but also for specifiers who rely on high-quality certification.
